YOU NEED TO BOOK A PERMIT
People wishing to camp at any of the National Park camp sites require a camp permit.
It is best to check the boat schedule/availability before booking a permit as not all sites are accessible every day.
The cost of a camp permit is $6.55 per person per night with family rates available.
They are easy to obtain:
Internet – go to www.qld.gov.au/camping. Enter the location you wish to travel to and the site you wish to camp at, once payment is made a permit is issued immediately, no waiting. Please note if you wish to camp on the Molle Group of Islands ie: Sandy Bay and Paddle Bay on South Molle or Denman, their location is the Molle Group of Islands otherwise most other sites are located in the Whitsunday Islands National Park.
Phone – call 13QGOV (7468) which is a national number and operates 7 days per week and is surprisingly easy, you need to give them the location, site, your name, emergency contact details, payment details and they issue you with a permit number.
National Park Offices – Any of the National Park offices in Queensland can issue a permit over the counter. There is a local office between Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour, at the corner of Mandalay Road and Shute Harbour Road, their phone number is: 07 4962 5205 and operate 5 days per week.
If booking via the internet or phone, you will be issued with a permit number, but you will not receive a tent tag, these can be obtained from the National Park offices, we also keep a supply of them at our departure shed. It just makes it easier to have a tent tag, with the permit number and other details on your tent so, if you’re not at your tent when the Rangers are doing a check they can get the details from your tag.
